GOD’S PROMISE OF LONG LIFE*

By Don Gossett

Five Profitable Secrets From Philippians Four

FIRST:   The Secret of Rejoicing. Verse 4.  "Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice." A joyful Christian is a walking advertisement of the grace of God. Say it right aloud, "I have found the secret of rejoicing always in the Lord, this joy is my strength, and this strength gives me a long, full life!"

SECOND:  The Secret of Living Without Worry. Verse 6. What a devastating thing worry is! It pulls one down mentally, physically and spiritually. The secret of overcoming it, Paul says, is by committing the worry into the hands of the Lord, trusting in Him to take care of it. Notice the Word says, "in everything," the small things as well as the big things. Say it now, "I am free from worry, for I commit everything to God by prayer and thanksgiving; therefore, the peace of God keep, my heart and mind."

THIRD:  The Secret of Contentment. Verse 11. "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content." To be contented is one of life's greatest victories and a lesson supremely worth learning. "Godliness with contentment is great gain" 1 Tim. 6:6. "The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him." Confess it, "I have learned the secret of contentment, for above all else, I know that God is for me, with me, within me, and working all things for my good and His glory."

FOURTH:  The Secret of Ability. Verse 13. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Is the lord calling you to do something for Him? Then step out fearlessly in the knowledge He will give you ability to do it. Daily say it over at least a dozen times, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

FIFTH:  The Secret of Supply. Verse 19. All your needs: spiritual, physical, mental and financial. Don't be a Bible "window shopper" with this verse. Instead, take the supply of all your needs by boldly confessing, "My God shall supply all of my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ."

SIXTH:  The Lord came to give you long, abundant life. Right here in this confused world where so many are suffering unhappy lives and untimely deaths, you have the secrets of rejoicing, of banishing worry, of contentment, of ability "in Christ," of supply of every need. "God hath hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them unto us by His Spirit." 1 Cor. 1:10.
